Circuit
Training
One type of training that
I really like to do and I’ve found is very efficient and effective is circuit training. Circuit training is basically
going from one exercise to the next with minimum rest in between. You can target a certain muscle or attack the total body,
which I like best. Every circuit that I do works one or two of the three major body areas. The upper, lower, and core.
For example: 3 sets non
stop
[Upper]Incline @75% for 10 reps
[Upper]Close Grip Bench @50% of 10 reps (explosion)
[Core]Leg raises 15 reps
[Upper]Upright Rolls @75% for 10 reps
[Lower]Leg extensions @75%
[Lower]Calf rises (on leg extension machine)
20-30 or till failure
What makes this type of
workout so effective is the constant movement. While one part of your body recovers you hit it in a different way or you work
other part of your body. It’s a high intensity work out that raises your heart rate. When your heart rate is raised
your burning calories, so think of it this way. By doing circuit training properly you are combining a cardio workout with
a weight training workout.
There are millions of different
combinations that you can do to develop you own type of circuit training. But keep in mind you want to design your circuit
training that is efficient to your gym lay-out. But what ever workout you do start getting in to the mentality of working
another part of your body while the other recovers. Start where your at and try to challenge your self everyday!

Aloha everyone. I wanted to pop on in with a quick update on the S.H.A.K.A. Challenge. Last weekend
we went down to the UNLV workout facilities to meet up with none other than Hekili Apao, our certified trainer and celebrity
chef. What a workout it was! For me personally the workout was life changing. Why you wonder? Well
I wanted to try to put up a video of the workout, but time has limited me.
During the workout while we were doing stations with different weightlifting exercises I started feeling a sharp pain
in my chest. At first I thought I was just comepletely winded and needed to simply take a minute to catch my breath.
Well after a few minutes my physical condition got worst. I had a hard time breathing and all my muscles were cramping
up. I realized that my system was shutting down and I mean this literally. I had a tough time breathing, my chest
was tight, my muscles were cramping, my legs were getting weak, I was feeling dizzy. I know it sounds dramatic and at
the time it was just that for me.
Hekili asked me a few questions and within that conversation I realized that I had no food in my system. I realized
that I didn't eat since the night prior for dinner which was a small salad. My body was indeed shutting down due to
low sugar levels and no substance to draw from internally. I never in my life reached that state before and I definitely
scared myself and everyone else who attended the workout.
My wife was trippin' also on my condition. She turned out to be my hero that day as she immediately hustled to
the cafe within the gym and bought me a protein shake. It immediately energized me and after a half hour of rest and
feeling embarassed I returned to join the guys.
I remember back in the days when I wrestled in high school I would go the entire day without eating, spitting in a cup
to lose weight, and ran laps between classes just to make weight for my match that evening. I was a moster truck back
then! Well I gotta remember that was 20 years ago and my body is just not the same. Today I'm more like my first
car, a yellow 2-door 79' Honda hatchback. I know I need to start taking things more serious and really applying the
health tips provided by Hekili.
Well that was my drama and needless to say I ruined the day for eveyone. What made things even more embarrasing
was that we were working out in the UNLV facilities and I was wearing a Hawaii Wariror hat. Small kine shame and disgrace
to my alma mater. Anyways, to make things worst, we all had a very challenging 2 weeks leading up to the weigh-in and
as they say the scale doesn't lie. Only Emory and I weighed in that day and the results are posted below. Da Webmastah
was out of town and Kuz'n Wally was out on business. I actualy tipped the scale at just over half a pound below my last
weigh-in, but since I had jean shorts on I rounded it off to 1 pound! :-)
I'm doing better this week and I just need to pick up my exercising part of the deal. I wish everyone success as
we all realize this is truly a lifetime challenge and with it comes ups and downs. Hopefully our next weigh-in everyone
gets back on track.
To all the listeners and supporters keep pushing forward. Craig out in Kailua keep going man, we believe in you!
Bubba in Vegas, you da man! Mahalo for the positive attitude! To my fellow media colleagues let's try harder to
lead the way and continue to inspire the masses. Aloha everyone and malama pono kou kino! -Pu'ukani
